Moderate to challenging walks of up to 2 hours duration
The Walking Group – Every Tuesday
The walking group is a well established group of people who enjoy rambling around the Cwmbran countryside. They meet every Tuesday at the Threepenny Bit at 10.00 am and leave about 10.15 for a 1.5 – 2 hour walk. Sometimes they venture further afield and take their cars to various locations where they can enjoy their walks. Some of the places they have visited include; Blaen Bran, The Lighthouse at Goldcliffe, Pontypool Park and Folly and Twm Barlwm. After the walk they meet back at the centre for coffee and biscuits or maybe a cooked breakfast from our Late Breakfast Cafe. Over the years friendships have been formed and the group regularly take part in social activities such as trips or lunches or other get togethers. The walk is free of charge and refreshments can be purchased in our cafe at very reasonable prices.
Why not come along, make new friends and enjoy the fresh air and exercise!
Walking for Health
Walking is proven to be one of the most beneficial things you can do to improve your health and fitness. Regular walking has been shown to reduce your risk of high blood pressure, stroke and other diseases such as diabetes.
A brisk walk is a natural energizer, boosting circulation and increasing the supply of oxygen to the cells, helping you to feel more alert and alive. It helps to loosen up stiff joints and eases muscle tension so you feel less sluggish.
The ability of exercise to boost mood is well known. Studies have also shown that regular exercise, such as brisk walking can be as effective as antidepressants in cases of mild to moderate depression.
You can get all these benefits by taking a short walk of 30 minutes a day!
