“Developing Our Community Together”
Open Day - 20th August 2016Sponsored by Tudor Trust
The CoStar Partnership held their annual summer Open Day on Saturday 20th August. Although the weather was overcast outside, the atmosphere inside the Three Penny Bit, Greenmeadow was bright and sunny.
The Great CoStar Cake Off and the Great CoStar Craft Off is a popular event each year. This year Genevieve Lewis a regular at the Crafty Chatters group won the Craft Off with her beautiful felted picture of poppies. Irene Davies baked the best butterfly cakes, Toni O’Toole came first in the Showstopper category with her magnificently decorated and topical Olympic cake and Emily Davies won the Apple Tart category. The Judges were CoStar Trustee Colette Willis and local lady Jane Tracey.
The Three Penny Bit Gallery launched a new exhibition of work by art students from CoStar’s weekly art classes. Paintings and drawings were on display in the hall gallery and the reception area. Thank you to Art Tutors Val Stewart from Newport and Richard Davies from Cwmbran who work so hard throughout the year to enable their students to produce such a good show.
We were graced with a visit from the two beautiful sisters Elsa and Anna who came to visit the Three Penny Bit all the way from their Frozen homeland. We were all cheered up by a visit from a giant size friendly Minion, all three posed for photos and made new friends with everyone in the hall. Many thanks to Mascots who made the visit possible.
The community café was open, our enthusiastic cooks Marina Brierley and Haulwen Bird both from Fairwater, Cwmbran, were busy cooking bacon sarnies all day long, and Michelle Gough for helping us all keep our peckers up.
Thanks to everyone who baked and donated home-made cakes and biscuits. We had the theme of a vintage tea party this year, Deb Ball, CoStar’s receptionist was a real star in her vintage rock and roll outfit. The tea tables were decorated with vintage tablecloths and collections of china from the fifties and sixties.
The day ended with a session of prize bingo. The players were made up of experienced players and those brand new to the game. We hope to be putting on more prize bingo sessions in the future.
Many thanks to Louise Davies and Averil Willis who donated so much to the White Elephant stall and ran the stall for us on the day. A big thank you to Daniel Ball who took all the photographs. Thanks also to Staff members, Sam, Jill, Lynne and Sue for making the day such a great day.
